Emma Spence earns first WAG Olympic medal for Canada

15-year-old Emma Spence, from Dynamo Gymnastics in Cambridge, Ontario scored a 13.483 average of two vaults to win a bronze medal in the apparatus finals of the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 13, 2018. Spence, who performed a Yurchenko layout 1½ vault and Yurchenko layout full vault, earned Canada its first Youth Olympic medal in artistic gymnastics and first medal for any Olympic event in women’s artistic.

Earlier in the day, Félix Dolci of Laval Excellence finished in sixth place in the floor exercise final after qualifying in ninth place almost a week prior. A mixup with Russian finalist Sergei Naidin allowed Dolci to compete in the final. See the Official Communication on this incident.

 

I’m overall very happy with how today went. I’ve been working really hard at the gym on my vaults and I’m glad that it paid off today!
